I didn't spend a ton of time in San Juan, but the brief time I spend was enough for me to get a glimpse of its beauty. The city still had a lot of post-Maria damage, but residents were carrying on with their lives as if nothing had happened. In the picture above, we see the colorful streets of La Perla, a beautiful part of the city where Despacito was filmed.

Next, I saw Castillo San Felipe del Morro, a large fort that historically protected the Spanish government of San Juan from potential invaders. It was huge and very beautiful, with a stunning view of the ocean. From here I walked to old St. Juan and spent some time with my roommate and his family.

San Juan was definitely charming and I had a great time there. It was great to see the perseverance and kindness of local people even in the face of adversity like Hurricane Maria. I am sure that the people of this lovely island will continue to overcome and thrive for years to come.
